MASCULINITY

I was girly and pretty. My hair was bleach blonde and over 15inches long.
I shaved it all off.
The change on the outside produced a change on the inside. I feel womanly, grown up,
feminine. This feeling grew stronger and I developed a new, different feeling of power.
I started wondering how others, especially men, perceived me and began questioning my identity between femininity and masculinity. I decided then to send my hair to the men
meaningful and significant in my life.
After taking photographs of over 30 strands of hair accompanied by the initials of friends,
lovers, ex-lovers and my dad I posted them off. Each envelope also included a note with
instructions. I asked every one to do with my hair whatever they had in mind and to document the result photographically.
